*Lead Safety Regulations:

By April 22, 2010, any contractors who might disturb lead paint in homes, schools and child care facilities built before 1978 will be required by the Environmental Protection Agency to be trained and accredited in proper lead safety techniques.

The law, known as the Renovation, Repair and Painting Program, holds contractors responsible for ensuring renovations follow strict protocol for maximizing the containment of poisonous lead dust. Not coming into compliance could lead to big fines by the EPA.
